An investigation is underway in Poland into the beating of two children for speaking Ukrainian
This was reported by Karolina Halecka, a spokesperson for the Polish Ministry of the Interior, and RMF24.
According to Halecka, the incident took place by the swimming pool, where the woman first followed the girls and then struck them. She added that the attack was likely motivated by the girls’ nationality and that this was “unacceptable”.
The victims’ mother said that, before the attack, the woman had made a remark to the girls because they were speaking Ukrainian. The attacker then began chasing one of the girls, before striking her, as well as another girl and a boy who came to her defence.
Czesław Mroczek, Poland’s Deputy Minister of the Interior and Administration, reported that the number of hate crimes in the country had risen. The Res Futura think tank also noted a growing trend of anti-Ukrainian sentiment online in May — analysts examined over 500,000 posts by users in Poland.
It should be recalled that earlier, in the Polish city of Płock, a man attacked two Ukrainian teenagers after hearing them speaking Ukrainian. According to the victims, the man struck the 15-year-old boy and subsequently forcibly pushed him and his girlfriend off the bus.
