The Pontiff stressed that attacks on the energy sector in freezing temperatures cause severe suffering to civilians and called for an end to violence.

Pope Leo XIV has reacted to a new wave of Russian strikes on Ukraine aimed at energy infrastructure in the face of a sharp cold snap. He wrote about it in his official post on the social network X (Twitter) on the @Pontifex page.

In his address, the pontiff noted that attacks on energy facilities in cold weather have serious consequences for the civilian population, which is forced to endure the cold without basic living conditions. The Pope assured of his prayers for all those affected and stressed the need for an immediate end to the violence.

Leo XIV also called on the international community to make new efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine, stressing the importance of a shared responsibility to protect civilians and find ways to a just and lasting solution.
