The street has been renamed: do you need to change your documents because of this?
This was reported by Debit-Credit.
Ukraine has been undergoing a massive street renaming process for several years now.
This process began during the decommunisation period and has accelerated significantly since the full-scale war began. More and more communities are rejecting Russian and Soviet place names.
Against this backdrop, Ukrainians are wondering whether they need to update their documents after a street is renamed.
Identity documents do not need to be changed after a street is renamed.
This also applies to citizens who still use the old-style passport in the form of a booklet.
They also do not need to update their residence registration stamp.
According to the State Migration Service, in accordance with Ukrainian law, information about registered residence or removal from it during the relevant registration action is not entered into documents certifying identity, confirming Ukrainian citizenship or special status.
If a person has an ID card passport, there is no need to change the registration extract separately.
In this case, the document confirming the place of residence or its absence at the time of formation is an extract from the register of the territorial community.
There are two ways to obtain it.
The first is to contact the registration authority or the administrative services centre.
The second is to generate the document through the "Dія" application after passing electronic identification and authentication.
Extracts from the territorial community register in electronic and paper forms have equal legal force.
It is also important to know the rules for holders of passport books.
In Ukraine, there is no mandatory replacement of old-style passports with ID cards.
However, if the photo is not updated in time, such a document will become invalid one month after the holder's birthday.
In addition, after a warning, citizens may face a fine of 17 to 51 hryvnia.
It is also noted that plastic passports are issued for a longer period to pensioners, while for younger citizens they are issued for 10 years.
