The police have submitted the case materials regarding the murder of activist Hanula to the court
This is reported by the press service of the National Police.
The murder was committed during the day on March 14, 2025, in the center of Odesa. The suspect shot at the activist and fled the scene. Demyan Hanul's death resulted from two gunshot wounds to the head and torso. The offender was detained within five hours. He turned out to be a 46-year-old serviceman from Kyiv region.
Investigators established that the suspect received an order to kill the activist. According to a pre-agreed plan, he went on his annual leave, rented two apartments in Odesa, illegally acquired firearms, ammunition, and hand grenades, which he stored in temporary residences. He was unable to carry out the order before the end of his leave, so he did not return to his military unit's location.
The suspect is charged under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- p.p. 6, 11 part 2 article 115: deliberate unlawful causing of death to another person, committed on order, for mercenary motives;
- part 1 article 263: illegal carrying, storage, acquisition of firearms (excluding smoothbore hunting weapons), ammunition, and hand grenades without the legally required permit;
- part 5 article 407: failure to appear for duty on time without valid reasons under martial law.
The offender faces life imprisonment with property confiscation.
