The case against a controversial blogger suspected of forging educational documents has been closed. This was due to the expiry of the statute of limitations for bringing charges.

The Kharkiv Regional Police reported this in response to an enquiry from the publication ‘Babel’.

The case was closed in accordance with paragraph 3-1 of Part 1 of Article 284 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine — that is, due to the expiry of the statute of limitations for bringing charges.

Blogger Spartak Subbota: what is known about him

Spartak Subbota gained popularity mainly after launching the ‘Podcast Therapy’ show on YouTube. He had over 500,000 subscribers on his channel.

On 11 April 2023, an investigation was published in which psychologist Ilya Poludonny accused Subbota of lying about his qualifications. According to him, Subbota most likely has no medical education and was calling himself a candidate of sciences five years before defending his thesis. Poludonny also analysed Spartak Subbota’s statements on therapeutic methods and disorders, demonstrating their unscientific nature.

Following the publication of the investigation, Subbota’s co-host on ‘Podcast Therapy’, Yevhen Yanovych, announced that their project was being shut down. On 10 May, the Ministry of Education and Science stated that there was no record of his foreign qualification in the Register of Educational Documents within the Unified State Electronic Database of Education (USEDE), and that the ministry had not issued any certificate recognising a foreign qualification in Ukraine. The Ministry of Education and Science contacted the police, who opened a case under the section of the Criminal Code concerning document forgery.
