Yanukovych is living in Russia under a new name and owns a property in Sochi
This is reported by Glavred, citing an investigation by ‘Toronto Television’.
Under a different name
According to the authors of the investigation, it is virtually impossible to find information about Yanukovych in Russian state registers. The journalists suggest that he may be using documents issued in the name of Oleg Mykolayovych Leonov.
Their search led the investigators to former employees of the State Security Service who left Ukraine alongside Yanukovych in 2014. After analysing their itineraries, residential addresses and other digital traces, the journalists tracked down a secluded residence near Sochi.
What is known about the residence
According to the investigation, the complex covers around three hectares. Its grounds include residential buildings, a garden, greenhouses, a pond, gazebos and a chapel. The authors of the report note that the architecture of the main building resembles Yanukovych’s former residence in Mezhyhiria.
The journalists found additional photographs of the complex in the public domain. After comparing these with satellite images and photographs of Yanukovych’s civil partner, Lyubov Polezhai, they speculated that she might be the one using this residence.
However, the authors of the investigation do not provide any direct evidence that Viktor Yanukovych himself lives at the estate. Their conclusions are based on an analysis of publicly available data and circumstantial evidence.
