Poland has been providing aid to Ukrainian refugees for the past year, - President Navrotskij
President signed the law on assistance to Ukrainian refugees for the last time. This was reported by Kresy.pl.
Nawrocki emphasized that support for the Ukrainian minority should combine responsibility with the principle of equal treatment for all national minorities.
"I do not want to be a president of chaos, so I signed the second version of the law on aid to Ukrainians, but I did it for the last time," - he said.
At the same time, the Polish president pointed out the need to streamline the support system.
"Ukrainians should be treated like any other national minority," - he emphasized.
Nawrocki explained that the initial version of the law, which was sent to him for signature, contained provisions for providing assistance to 800+ Ukrainians who do not work in Poland, which he deemed unacceptable.
"This was an unfair decision regarding Poles," - said the President of Poland.
The new law was developed after Nawrocki vetoed amendments to the law on the so-called aid 800+ for Ukrainians.
The new act stipulates that the right to payments will depend on a number of conditions. In particular, aid will be preserved for those who are officially employed or whose children attend Polish schools. An exception is made for people with disabilities.
Additionally, to qualify for payments, foreigners must earn at least 50% of the minimum wage in Poland.
It is clarified that Polish authorities will check monthly whether the recipient is employed. If a Ukrainian is not working, the 800+ payment will be discontinued for them. The possibility of leaving Poland will also be taken into account.
The law also provides for changes in the healthcare sector. For adult Ukrainian citizens, restrictions are introduced on access to a number of medical services, including rehabilitation, dental treatment, and some medication therapies.
