Poland has fined a luxury car dealer for illegally exporting vehicles to Russia
This was reported by the Polish government, according to "European Truth".
A company run by Belarusian nationals in south-eastern Poland purchased premium cars in Western Europe in 2022–2023 and then exported them to Russia via Poland, Lithuania and Belarus.
A total of 100 cars from manufacturers such as BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Lamborghini, Porsche and Bentley, worth over 49 million zlotys, were identified as part of the illegal trade. The KAS tax authority described it as one of the “largest cases of its kind” in Poland.
“The evidence gathered indicates that the company’s management acted knowingly and deliberately participated in circumventing sanctions,” the statement said.
Warsaw has been targeting companies that violate EU sanctions against Russia for several months, as various industries have reported unfair competition to the authorities due to sanctions evasion, particularly regarding the sale of fertilisers, timber, luxury goods and tractors.
The ban on the sale to Russia of luxury goods worth over €300 and cars worth over €50,000 was part of the sanctions the bloc imposed on Russia following its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
