Over 100 searches: a large-scale scheme to evade conscription has been uncovered in the Lviv region
According to sources within the law enforcement agencies, the town in question is Staryi Sambir, reports Channel 24.
Investigators have established that employees of a municipal enterprise, a medical institution and a representative of the local government were involved in organising a scheme that systematically obstructed mobilisation.
According to the investigation, conscripts were fictitiously employed at the municipal enterprise in exchange for monetary compensation. This enabled them to obtain an exemption from mobilisation.
Law enforcement officers have already documented a number of cases involving so-called ‘pseudo-exempt’ individuals.
In addition to exemptions, according to the investigation, a medical facility was producing fake documents certifying disability categories.
Such certificates allowed men to be declared unfit for military service.
As part of the investigation, law enforcement officers carried out over 100 searches at the homes and workplaces of those involved in the scheme.
The main suspects in the case are expected to be charged shortly under several sections of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
These include:
- Article 369 on accepting a proposal, promise or receiving an unlawful benefit;
- Article 369-2 on abuse of influence;
- Article 114-1 on obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement officers are identifying all those involved and determining the amount of bribes received.
