Law enforcement officers detained a man involved in the explosion at "Ukrposhta" in Kyiv
Last evening in the Solomianskyi district of the capital, an explosion occurred during the inspection of a parcel at the "Ukrposhta" sorting center. As a result of the incident, five citizens were injured: postal employees and customs officers.
A 40-year-old resident of Ternopil wanted to send ammunition as a souvenir. Consequently, a hazardous parcel with a shell detonated at the sorting center during inspection, reports ThePublic.info citing Kyiv police.
During the investigation of the scene, the investigative and operational group, bomb technicians, and police dogs found remnants of the shell. Operatives identified the sender of the parcel as a 40-year-old resident of Ternopil. Law enforcement officers, together with customs officials, discovered another hazardous parcel with defused ammunition at the sorting center.
Kyiv police, in cooperation with Ternopil police, detained the 40-year-old man at his place of residence. During a search of his apartment, another dozen rounds of ammunition were seized. It was preliminarily established that the man made souvenirs from ammunition by engraving them and sent them via postal shipments.
Investigators of Kyiv police initiated a criminal proceeding under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — illegal handling of weapons, combat supplies, or explosive substances. The penalty for this offense is imprisonment for up to seven years.
