Putin orders reservists to protect Russia's critical infrastructure
Russian President Vladimir Putin
Vladimir Putin has signed a decree to hold a special meeting of reservists in 2026 to protect critical facilities. The decision is attributed to the threat of drone strikes on the energy sector.

Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin has signed a decree to send citizens in the mobilisation reserve of the Russian Armed Forces to special training in 2026. The document has already entered into force

According to the decree, reservists will be involved in the protection of critical and life-support facilities. Russian media and the Russian Ministry of Defence have clarified that this is primarily about oil refineries and other energy infrastructure facilities, which have recently been targeted by drone attacks.

In November, the head of the State Duma Defence Committee, Andrei Kartapolov, said that there were about 30,000 people in the reserve. At the same time, he emphasised the decision of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief to multiply the number of reservists. In this way, the Kremlin is trying to strengthen the protection of strategic facilities amid the war and growing threats to the energy sector
