Russia has declared a ‘ceasefire’ for 8–10 May and threatened Kyiv with an attack
This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defence.
The Russian Ministry of Defence has announced a “ceasefire” in the combat zone from 8 to 10 May.
According to the Russian ministry, the decision was taken by Vladimir Putin ahead of Victory Day.
The Russian Ministry of Defence claims that from 00:00 Moscow time on 8 May until 10 May, all Russian military units in the zone of the so-called “special operation” must completely cease hostilities.
The ministry also stated that during this period, Russia would allegedly cease air strikes on Ukrainian territory.
At the same time, in the same statement, the Russian side threatened Kyiv with a massive missile strike.
“We would also like to remind you that should the Kyiv regime attempt to disrupt the celebrations marking the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War in Moscow, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will launch a massive missile strike on the centre of Kyiv. We once again warn the civilian population of Kyiv and staff of foreign diplomatic missions of the need to leave the city in good time,” the Russian Ministry of Defence stated.
The Russian ministry is presenting this as a temporary ceasefire until 9 May. At the same time, the statement itself contains a direct threat of a missile strike on the centre of the Ukrainian capital and a call for civilians and staff of foreign diplomatic missions to leave Kyiv.
As reported by ThePublic, Russia violated the ceasefire initiated by Ukraine at midnight between 5 and 6 May. According to Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga, Russian attacks continued throughout the night, involving 108 drones and 3 missiles.
