The German defence company Rheinmetall has delivered the first consignment of 155 mm artillery rounds to Ukraine from its new factory in Unterlüs. The remaining rounds are due to be delivered by the end of 2026.

This was reported on the Rheinmetall website.

The first delivery to Ukraine comprises a “five-figure number of shells” and propellant charges manufactured at the company’s other facilities. The company has already dispatched more than half of the order.

Ukraine has received RH1412 shells, which are Rheinmetall’s “latest product”. These shells can be used with various 155 mm calibre systems, and the ammunition itself has a long range. By 2030, the German company plans to produce approximately 1.5 million 155-mm artillery shells annually.

At the end of August 2025, it emerged that Rheinmetall had officially commissioned a new factory in Lower Saxony. A significant proportion of the ammunition produced there is to be sent to Ukraine.

Rheinmetall is one of the largest manufacturers of military equipment and armaments in Germany and Europe. The company plans to set up production in Ukraine of armoured vehicles, including tanks, ammunition and air defence systems. According to Agence France-Presse, Rheinmetall wants to build at least four factories in Ukraine.
