Over the past 24 hours, Russian forces have carried out one of the largest-scale air strikes on Ukraine. The main target of the strikes was Kyiv, with damage also reported in the Kyiv region, Kremenchuk and Chornomorsk.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that, since the start of the previous day, Russian forces have deployed over 1,560 drones against Ukrainian cities and communities. According to him, Russia launched over 670 attack drones and 56 missiles at Ukraine during the night alone.

During the attack, Russian forces used ballistic, aeroballistic and cruise missiles. Kyiv was the main target of the strike.

In the capital, damage was recorded at 20 locations. Residential buildings, a school, a veterinary clinic and other civilian infrastructure were damaged.

Damage was also reported in the Kyiv region.

Separately, the president reported strikes on energy infrastructure in Kremenchuk and on port and residential buildings in Chornomorsk.

“This is certainly not the behaviour of those who believe the war is coming to an end,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The President also emphasised the need for continued international support for Ukraine’s air defence system and for further pressure on Russia.

The first wave of the attack took place during the day on 13 May

The main target of the first wave of attacks was the western regions of Ukraine.

The air attack was repelled by the Ukrainian Air Force, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defence Forces.

The second wave of the attack was directed at Kyiv

On the night of 14 May, following a daytime drone strike, Russian forces continued their combined attack using air- and ground-launched missiles, as well as attack drones.

Kyiv was the main target of the attack.
