The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), together with British intelligence agencies, has detained UK citizen Ross David Catmor, who arrived in Ukraine as a military instructor but is now suspected of carrying out intelligence and sabotage tasks for Russian security services.

As reported by ThePublic.info, sources within the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) say that Ukrainian counterintelligence, working jointly with partner agencies in the United Kingdom, has uncovered the activities of British citizen Ross David Catmor, who allegedly carried out tasks for Russian intelligence in Ukraine throughout 2024–2025. Catmor has been detained and remains in custody as investigative actions continue.

The operation to expose and detain the foreign national was conducted in early October under the coordination of Major General Oleksandr Poklad, Deputy Head of the SBU. According to the source, Catmor arrived in Ukraine last year posing as a military instructor tasked with helping train units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

Investigators state that Catmor had significant combat experience gained during his service in the British Army and deployments in the Middle East. However, according to the investigation, this expertise was later exploited by Russian intelligence after his recruitment.

Russian operatives allegedly supplied Catmor with firearms and ammunition for carrying out “targeted killings” on Ukrainian territory. The investigation believes the British national was involved in transporting and distributing weapons used in the killings of Demyan Hanul, Iryna Farion, and Andriy Parubiy.

The SBU continues to document Catmor’s activities and identify possible accomplices. According to the source, the detainee is being held in full isolation and is providing testimony as part of the ongoing criminal case.
