Russian attacks on regions of Ukraine have resulted in casualties

During the night of 31 March and over the past 24 hours, Russian attacks have resulted in civilian casualties in several regions of Ukraine. The regions hardest hit were Poltava, Sumy, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Odesa.

Poltava Region

In the Poltava region, one person was killed and three others were injured, including a child, when debris from a drone fell. Two of the injured were hospitalised, including an 11-year-old boy. An apartment block was damaged.

On the night of 31 March, Russian forces attacked Poltava. One person was killed in the strike and four others were injured, including two children. A multi-storey residential building was damaged, with the ceiling on the top floor collapsed, windows smashed and cars damaged.

Rescue workers evacuated residents and handed the injured over to medics. Sixty-three rescue workers and 14 pieces of equipment were deployed at the scene. Hits on an industrial infrastructure facility and in an open area were also recorded; the fires have been extinguished. Separate reports indicate damage to industrial buildings with no casualties.

Sumy region

In the Sumy region, Russian forces struck settlements in several districts. In the Hlukhiv community, at least 12 people, including a child, were injured as a result of a strike by guided aerial bombs.

According to other reports, 14 people were injured in the same community, including a six-year-old child. A student hall of residence, a pension fund building, a veterinary laboratory, an educational institution, an administrative building, nine multi-storey and six private houses, as well as five cars, were damaged.

In the Mykolaiv community, two people were injured, and residential buildings and farm buildings were damaged. In the Shostka community, damage to residential buildings and a car was reported.

Donetsk region

In the Donetsk region, six people were injured over the past 24 hours. Four people were injured in Sloviansk, and one person each in Dobropillia and Druzhkivka.

Zaporizhzhia region

In the Zaporizhzhia region, 1,121 strikes on 43 settlements were recorded over the past 24 hours. In the Zaporizhzhia district, two men aged 40 and 77 were injured. There were 78 reports of damage to homes, vehicles and infrastructure.

Odesa region

In Odesa, on the morning of 31 March, a Russian drone struck the balcony of a flat on the third floor of a block of flats. The façade was damaged, windows were shattered, and balconies from the second to the fourth floors were destroyed.

A fire broke out at the scene, which was extinguished by emergency services. A 50-year-old man sustained a cut to his forearm and is receiving medical treatment. Emergency services are working at the scene, and law enforcement officers are documenting the aftermath of the attack.
