Rostov and Belgorod have reported drone attacks, with damage reported
On the night of 27 July, a series of explosions rocked Rostov-on-Don following a drone attack.
According to information from monitoring Telegram channels, damage was reported in the Zheleznodorozhny, Proletarsky and Leninsky districts of the city. Fires broke out in warehouses and several private homes. Local Telegram channels published videos of the drones in flight and the explosions.
According to an analysis of the footage published by the Astra project, the likely target of the attack was the Rostov Commercial Seaport. Smoke was visible above its fourth cargo area in the morning.
Reports also emerged online of possible strikes on port and railway infrastructure. The Russian authorities have not issued any official confirmation of this information.
That same night, drones attacked Belgorod.
Local residents and Telegram channels reported fires in residential buildings, explosions and disruptions to electricity and water supplies in certain areas of the city.
The local publication ‘Pepel’ reported that following the attack, an emergency power cut occurred in the centre of Belgorod, causing street lighting and the water supply to fail.
Reports also circulated online about a possible strike on the building housing the Russian FSB headquarters in the Belgorod region. However, there was no official confirmation of this information. Reports subsequently emerged that the Belgorod Region Ministry of Internal Affairs museum may have been damaged, but these reports also remain unconfirmed.
The Belgorod Region Emergency Response Centre stated that the threat of a repeat drone attack remained.
