Law enforcement officers have detained two people suspected of being involved in an explosion near a private house in Brovary. The incident occurred on the evening of 13 April.

The Security Service of Ukraine, in conjunction with the National Police, has detained two individuals suspected of carrying out a terrorist attack in Brovary, Kyiv Oblast.

According to the investigation, the explosion occurred on the evening of 13 April near a private residence. As a result of the incident, a 36-year-old man sustained minor injuries.

It has been established that a homemade explosive device was detonated. It was placed near a fence and triggered via a telephone call. To record the explosion, the perpetrators attached a mobile device to a street lamp post.

The suspects were arrested within a few hours of the incident. They turned out to be a 23-year-old resident of Brovary and his 17-year-old accomplice from the Chernivtsi region. The younger suspect was arrested at the railway station in the town of Mohyliv-Podilskyi in the Vinnytsia region, from where he was attempting to leave Ukraine.

During searches, the detainees’ mobile phones, SIM cards, electric lighters and the clothing they wore during the crime were seized.

According to available information, the suspects were acting on the orders of the aggressor country’s special services. A handler from the Russian Federation had promised them a monetary reward.

Investigators from the Security Service of Ukraine are investigating the circumstances of the incident as part of criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

The Security Service of Ukraine urges citizens to report suspicious objects, individuals or attempts at recruitment via official channels.
