In Kropyvnytskyi, the SSU counterintelligence service exposed a man who, on behalf of the FSB, was registering Starlink satellite terminals for further use by Russia in the war against Ukraine. The arrest took place during an attempt to register the equipment under another person's name.

The Counterintelligence Service of Ukraine detained an FSB agent in Kropyvnytskyi. According to the investigation, he registered Starlink satellite terminals under false names for further transfer of device details to the Russian special services.

The investigation established that a 37-year-old local draft dodger was involved in the illegal activity. According to the SSU, he was looking for a job on Telegram channels, where he came to the attention of the Russian special services. After being recruited, the man registered one of the terminals in his name, allegedly for domestic use.

He then planned to involve his relative and ten other drug addicts in the scheme, who agreed to cooperate in exchange for money. Using their passport details, the man intended to register eleven more satellite communication terminals and pass on the relevant details to the FSB.

SSU officers detained him near a local administrative services centre while he was attempting to register Starlink under a false identity. At the same time, the Ministry of Digital Transformation blocked and blacklisted the terminal he had previously registered in his name.

During searches, a smartphone with evidence of cooperation with the enemy was seized from the detainee. SSU investigators informed the man that he was suspected of high treason under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, committed under martial law.

The suspect is in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property. The legal classification of the actions of his relative and other persons who may have been involved in the scheme is also being decided.

Comprehensive measures were carried out by SSU officers in the Kirovohrad region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.

The SSU urges the public to report any attempts at recruitment or activities by Russian special services via the chat bot "Spali FSBshnika" (Expose the FSB Agent) at t.me/spaly_fsb_bot, by telephone at 0 800 501 482, or by email at [email protected].
