Serhiy Rebrov has stepped down as head coach of the Ukraine national team
Serhiy Rebrov has stepped down as head coach of the Ukrainian national football team. The Ukrainian Football Association and the coach have agreed to end their working relationship.
The UAF noted that Rebrov took charge of the team in 2023 during the European Championship qualifying campaign. Under his leadership, the national team managed to navigate difficult play-off matches and qualify for the Euros. The team then fought for a place at the World Cup but failed to qualify.
“We thank Serhiy Stanislavovych for his work and his contribution to the development of young footballers. Today, we need to move forward and make new decisions that will form the foundation of the national team’s future,” said UAF President Andriy Shevchenko.
Rebrov himself thanked the team and the fans for their time working together.
“I am grateful to the whole team and the fans for the journey we have been on. It was a difficult path with victories and defeats, but the Ukrainian people always supported the national team. These are moments of unity that I will never forget and for which I will always be grateful. I would also like to thank the UAF for its constant assistance, support and collaboration,” he said.
The association noted that Serhiy Rebrov will continue in his role as vice-president and a member of the UAF Executive Committee. The identity of the new head coach of the Ukrainian national team will be announced at a later date.
As a reminder, in the decisive matches for qualification for the World Cup, the Ukrainian national team lost 3-1 to Sweden. The only goal for the Ukrainian side was scored by Dynamo Kyiv forward Matvii Ponomarenko.
Following the conclusion of the World Cup qualifying campaign, the Ukrainian national team dropped to 32nd place in the world rankings, their lowest position in the last eight years.
