March 2026 was a month of intense fighting and continued active defence for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Ukrainian troops managed to achieve results in liberating parts of the territory.

This is stated in a statement by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi.

The hottest fronts over the month were Oleksandrivka, Pokrovsk, Kostyantynivka and Lyman.

Syrskyi emphasised that the Defence Forces must seize the strategic initiative and are therefore conducting active defence. As a result, in March, Ukrainian troops regained control of almost 50 km² of occupied territory.

“We are countering Russian numerical superiority with Ukrainian quality in combat operations, forcing the enemy to play by our rules and constantly postpone the deadlines for completing their tasks,” Syrskyi stated.

Thus, to reduce the Russian Federation’s offensive capabilities, the Defence Forces are maintaining a high intensity of strikes against military, defence-industrial and other facilities on Russian territory that support the occupiers’ operations. In March, 76 such targets were struck using Deep Strike capabilities, 15 of which were oil refining facilities.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 212 combat engagements were recorded over the past 24 hours, on 14 April. Russian forces launched one missile strike, deployed 6,672 kamikaze drones and carried out 2,917 shelling attacks on populated areas and Defence Forces positions. Meanwhile, the Defence Forces’ air force, missile forces and artillery struck five areas where enemy personnel and equipment were concentrated, two UAV control points and one multiple launch rocket system.
