The 17-year-old Somali teenager has been charged with the murder of 17-year-old Ukrainian teenager Vadym Davidenko in North Dublin. The victim, who arrived in Ireland seeking asylum last Sunday, was stabbed at a care facility around 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
The accused, whose name cannot be disclosed due to his age, was brought before Judge Theresa Kelly at Dublin District Court, reports the publication.
Present in court were a representative from Tusla (the State Agency for Children and Family Services) and a Somali interpreter, as well as a significant police presence, including members of a specialized unit in protective gear.
Detective Sergeant Mark Quill stated that the teenager did not respond when the charges were read to him through an interpreter at Clontarf police station.
Lawyer Andrew Walsh did not request bail and asked for urgent psychiatric and medical assistance for his client during detention.
Judge Kelly approved this request, and the teenager was remanded in custody and taken to Oberstown Youth Detention Centre in Dublin. His case is scheduled for re-hearing in the Juvenile Court next Tuesday.
