The US announced the destruction of a drug traffickers vessel in the Pacific Ocean: two dead
On Thursday, 5 February, the US Southern Command announced that it had struck a vessel in the eastern Pacific Ocean which, according to American intelligence, was involved in drug trafficking. Two people were killed in the strike, whom the military described as suspects in drug trafficking. It is noted that no American servicemen were injured during the operation.
The command's statement said that the ship was travelling along known drug trafficking routes and was involved in related operations. At the same time, the US military did not provide public evidence that the ship recorded in the published materials was actually transporting drugs.
This is the second such strike since the events of 3 January, when Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro was detained during a US military operation and taken to the United States. He is charged, in particular, with conspiracy to commit narco-terrorism and organising the importation of cocaine.
According to the US military, since September 2025, the US Armed Forces have carried out attacks on dozens of ships in the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean that were believed to be involved in drug smuggling. As a result of these operations, according to official information, at least 128 people were killed.
The administration of President Donald Trump has not yet released evidence that the dead were indeed drug traffickers. Critics of such actions call the strikes extrajudicial executions and claim possible violations of international law.
