The Swiss government has suspended payments for the Patriot air defence system and has not ruled out terminating the contract. This is due to uncertainty regarding the delivery schedule.

The Swiss government has stated that it will not make any further payments for the purchase of the US Patriot system until the United States provides binding delivery dates.

According to Reuters, the delivery schedule and financing stages remain unclear.

Defence Minister Martin Pfister said that the government continues to consider the possibility of purchasing the system, but has not ruled out other options.

“We are currently discussing all possible options with the United States, and this includes a potential termination,” he said during a press conference. According to him, the conditions for a possible cancellation of the contract have not yet been determined.

At the same time, the government announced that it had brought forward the payment for the purchase of F-35A fighter jets to the end of March 2026 to avoid risks to the implementation of this deal in connection with the decisions regarding the Patriot system.

The Ministry of Defence plans to inform the Swiss Federal Council by the end of June about the next steps regarding the procurement of the system.
