The Foreign Ministry has refuted claims by Russian intelligence that Ukraine is allegedly preparing strikes against Russia from Latvian territory
This was announced by Georgiy Tykhyi, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to him, Ukraine does not use Latvian territory or airspace in its operations against Russia and has no such intentions.
“There is not a shred of truth in the latest batch of false claims from Moscow, which accuses Ukraine of preparing attacks against Russia from Latvian territory. We officially refute them,” the spokesperson said.
Tykhyi also wrote that “Russian lies are merely a continuation of its [Russia’s] broader propaganda campaign aimed at destabilising public opinion in Latvia and the Baltic region as a whole.”
The statements by the Russian security services were also refuted by Latvia’s Foreign Minister Baiba Braze. She stated that the country “does not provide airspace for attacks on Russia”, adding that “this has been explained to Russian representatives on numerous occasions”.
Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs also accused Russia of lying.
It should be noted that the day before, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service claimed that Ukraine was allegedly planning to attack Russia from Latvian territory. They claimed that Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces personnel had already been sent to military bases in Latvia.
“It is worth recalling that the coordinates of the ‘decision-making centres’ on Latvian territory are well known, and the country’s NATO membership will not protect the ‘terrorists’’ accomplices from just retribution,” the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service stated.
As a reminder, it was previously reported that Lithuania is preparing for a possible Russian attack and is calling on Europe to break free from its dependencies.
