The President of Romania has called a meeting following a drone explosion in Constanța

Romania discusses security in the Black Sea
According to the Office of the President of Romania, the meeting is taking place at the headquarters of the 243rd Radio-Electronic and Surveillance Brigade “Calatis” in Constanța. Representatives of the bodies responsible for defence and national security are taking part.During the meeting, they plan to analyse the circumstances of the incident involving the maritime drone, its potential impact on the security of Romania and the region, as well as measures to strengthen surveillance and response in the Black Sea. Following the meeting, Nicușor Dan is due to hold a press conference.
What is known about the explosion in Constanța
On the morning of 5 June, people were evacuated from the Romanian port of Constanța following an explosion involving a maritime drone. No one was injured in the incident. The Romanian Ministry of Defence stated that maritime drones of this type are being used during the Russian-Ukrainian war. Subsequently, the Ukrainian Navy reported that whilst carrying out missions in the Black Sea operational zone, one of its unmanned naval vessels lost control under the influence of Russian electronic warfare systems and ended up off the coast of Romania.
