The plot of land on which the SPACE international science and health centre is to be built will remain in state ownership and under the permanent use of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The project’s developers also assure that the concept does not envisage any residential development or a change in the land’s designated use.

This was stated in an interview by Yaroslav Yatskiv, Chair of the Academic Council of the Main Astronomical Observatory of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and a member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

According to him, the SPACE project is being implemented in accordance with the current decisions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the investment agreement between the Main Astronomical Observatory of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and Freds Resorts Ltd.

What the SPACE project entails

According to the concept, SPACE is set to become an international scientific research and medical rehabilitation centre. The project aims to combine the development of modern scientific infrastructure, international cooperation and research in the field of long-term human rehabilitation.

The Main Astronomical Observatory of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the International Centre for Astronomical and Medical-Ecological Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine have been designated as the centre’s scientific bases.

One of the project’s main objectives is to restore the research infrastructure and develop scientific fields that have suffered as a result of Russian aggression.

What the NAS Observatory will receive

As part of the project, the Main Astronomical Observatory of the NAS of Ukraine is set to receive new scientific and conference facilities.

Plans include the creation of laboratories, a conference hall, facilities for educational programmes and spaces for hosting international scientific events.

The cost of the infrastructure to be transferred to the NAS of Ukraine Observatory will amount to at least 150 million hryvnias.

How the project will be funded

A separate area of the centre’s work will involve researching and testing long-term recovery programmes for people who have suffered the effects of chronic stress and excessive strain. In particular, this refers to veterans, military personnel and other citizens in need of long-term rehabilitation.

According to Yaroslav Yatskiv, all costs relating to the design, construction and operation of the infrastructure will be covered by the investor without drawing on the state budget.
