The youngest was just two days old. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia has killed 707 Ukrainian children
This was announced by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to reports, 707 children have been killed and 2,548 wounded by Russia in Ukraine. Human Rights Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets also noted that a further 2,318 children are considered missing. The youngest child to die was just two days old — she was born and died in the maternity ward.
According to him, these figures could be significantly higher, as the Ukrainian side still “does not know the whole truth” about the temporarily occupied territories, and Russia has deported thousands of children from Ukraine to its own territory.
“Every death is a child whose future has been stolen. Russia must be held accountable for these crimes,” Zelenskyy wrote.
Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko stated that over 6,000 criminal cases are currently under investigation regarding crimes against children and in the field of child protection, committed as a result of Russian aggression. 234 Russian military personnel have already been notified of suspicion, and indictments have been sent to court against 108 people.
He mentioned three instances where Russia killed Ukrainian children:
- 14 July 2022, Vinnytsia — a strike by ‘Kalibr’ missiles on the city centre. Three children were killed.
- 14 January 2023, Dnipro — a missile destroyed a residential building. Six children were killed.
- 8 July 2024, Kyiv — Russia deliberately attacked the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital.
It should be noted that during the massive shelling of Ukraine on 25 May 2025 in the town of Korostyshiv, Zhytomyr region, Russia killed three children from the Martynyuk family — 8-year-old Stanislav, 12-year-old Tamara and 17-year-old Roman.
