Trump expects Xi Jinping to visit the US at the end of 2026
US President Donald Trump is expecting Chinese President Xi Jinping to make a state visit to the United States at the end of 2026. The American leader told reporters aboard the presidential plane on his way from Davos to Washington.
Commenting on contacts with the Chinese leadership, Trump noted that he plans to visit China in April. According to him, Xi Jinping's visit to the United States should follow. "And he will come by the end of the year. I look forward to seeing President Xi," Trump said.
The US president also described the Chinese leader as an "amazing person" and stressed that relations between Washington and Beijing have improved significantly. According to Trump, China has once again begun to actively purchase American soybeans, which has a positive impact on the US agricultural sector. "This pleases our farmers, and it pleases me," he added.
In October last year, following a meeting between US and Chinese leaders in South Korea, the parties agreed to a one-year truce in their trade dispute. At that time, Trump announced that he had accepted Xi's invitation to visit China in April 2026, followed by a state visit by the Chinese leader to the United States.
Later, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent suggested that Trump and Xi could meet up to four times during 2026. This would involve two state visits, as well as talks on the sidelines of the G20 summit in December in Doral, Florida, and the APEC forum in November in Shenzhen, China.
