Tuition fees at Ukrainian universities have risen: how much will a bachelor’s degree cost in 2026?
This is reported by ‘Ekonomichna Pravda’.
The university admissions campaign in Ukraine begins on 1 July. This year, applicants will have to take into account not only competition for state-funded places but also a significant rise in the cost of fee-paying places.
According to ‘Economic Truth’, fees for certain degree programmes at popular universities have risen by around 25 per cent compared with last year.
Which universities are the most popular among applicants?
Universities in Kyiv and Lviv traditionally receive the most applications. Applicants’ choices are influenced not only by rankings and degree programmes, but also by the security situation.
Among the most popular universities are:
Ivan Franko National University of Lviv;
Lviv Polytechnic National University;
Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv;
Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute;
State University of Trade and Economics.
Which degree programmes are most popular?
Demand for degree programmes among applicants remains relatively stable. Among the most popular fields are management, psychology, philology, law and marketing.
‘Computer Science’, which previously topped the rankings, has now been overtaken by humanities and management programmes.
How much will tuition fees cost in 2026?
The most expensive popular degree programmes at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv are ‘Management’, ‘Law’ and ‘Marketing’. Four years of full-time study will cost 388.4 thousand UAH.
At Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, the ‘Law’ programme costs 346.8 thousand UAH for the full bachelor’s degree.
At the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, the cost of studying ‘Management’ and ‘Law’ is estimated at 335,000 UAH.
At Lviv Polytechnic National University, the most popular degree programmes cost around 300,000 UAH for four years.
At the State University of Trade and Economics, a degree in ‘Management’ will cost approximately 220,000 UAH.
What support is available to applicants?
For applicants who have not secured a state-funded place, an educational grant scheme is available.
A first-tier grant can be obtained with a National Multidisciplinary Test (NMT) score of 150 points or higher. The amount starts at 17,000 UAH per year.
A second-tier grant is available to applicants with a National Multidisciplinary Test (NMT) score of 170 points or higher. It amounts to 25,000 UAH per year.
In 2025, 15,600 applicants received such grants. In 2026, over 1.2 billion UAH has been earmarked for the programme.
Academic scholarships are also set to increase from September — doubling for certain categories. At the same time, the old scheme for preferential long-term loans at 3 per cent per annum is effectively not operating, as budgetary resources have been redirected towards defence during martial law.
