Director Bata Nedich, creator of *The Century of Jacob* and *A Village Worth a Million*, has died
The director’s death was announced by his family on his Facebook page.
According to his family, Bata Nedich died on 25 June following a long battle with illness.
What Bata Nedich was known for
Bata Nedich was a Ukrainian film director and producer of Serbian origin. He made his directorial debut in 1989 with the film *Trains Without Smiles*.
He went on to work on numerous television and film projects, including *The Century of Yakov*, *A Village Worth a Million*, *The Other Franko*, *The Route of Mercy* and others.
Producer Mykhailo Beizerman recounted that Nedich had originally come to Odesa for just a few days, but ended up staying to live and work in Ukraine.
How his colleagues reacted
Ukrainian screenwriter Mykola Brovchenko described the director as someone who always had a smile on his face and was ready to work even without large budgets.
The Odessa Film Studio reported that Bata Nedich had been working on the TV series *A Film for a NEPman*. Following his death, another team will have to complete the project.
TV presenter Tala Kalatay also shared her memories of the director. She recalled how, following a serious road accident during the filming of the series *Route of Mercy*, it was Nedich’s sense of humour that helped her recover from the shock she had experienced.
