In Bulgaria, a bus carrying Ukrainians rolled backwards: two people were killed
A serious road traffic accident has occurred on the Burgas–Malko Tarnovo road, near the border crossing leading to Turkey.
According to preliminary information, there were 37 passengers and two drivers on the bus, all of whom were Ukrainian citizens. It is reported that the vehicle stopped after running out of fuel.
The passengers then got off the bus and gathered behind it. It was at this moment that the bus suddenly began to roll backwards.
According to the authorities, the bus struck a group of people standing behind it, after which it ended up in a roadside ditch.
Investigators explained that the vehicle broke down after running out of fuel. The passengers were let off, but shortly afterwards the bus suddenly started moving and crashed into the people standing behind it.
Two passengers were killed in the accident. At least 16 others were injured, some seriously.
Ambulance crews transported six of the injured to hospitals in Burgas and a further ten to the emergency centre in Malko Tarnovo.
The remaining passengers were temporarily accommodated at a day centre in the border town. There, they were provided with medical assistance and essential supplies.
Local officials also reported that the bus was travelling to Turkey as part of a tour involving Ukrainian citizens, including some refugees living in Burgas. According to this information, the group was waiting near the bus when the incident occurred.
Following the collision, the bus overturned, but all passengers and both drivers were eventually evacuated. It is
noted separately that some of the injured, including children, were given first aid at the scene, after which they were taken for further treatment.
