Two Russian students sentenced in Finland for circumventing EU sanctions
The District Court of Kainuu Province in Finland has found two more Russian citizens guilty — students accused of violating the European Union's sanctions regime against the Russian Federation. This was reported by the Finnish public broadcaster Yle.
According to the court's decision, a man born in 1998 received a one-year suspended sentence for gross violation of sanctions, and a woman born in 2005 was sentenced to four months' suspended imprisonment for aiding and abetting the crime.
The investigation established that, together with a third person, they participated in the purchase in Finland and subsequent transfer to Russia of dual-use goods — products that can be used for both civilian and military purposes.
The criminal activity took place between 2022 and 2024 in the city of Kajaani. The court concluded that the actions of the convicted persons violated the European Union's restrictions imposed in response to Russia's aggression.
