307 generators are operating at critical facilities in Kyiv, with another 40 expected
In Kyiv, 307 powerful generators are being used at problem sites, with an additional 40 units expected to arrive. This was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal following a daily meeting of the energy headquarters.
According to him, on the night of 29 January, the capital switched to temporary power outage schedules. Due to the nature of the damage to the power system, these schedules remain strict and may vary depending on the area and even individual buildings. At the same time, in emergency conditions, they give residents more predictability.
Shmyhal noted that the electricity shortage in Kyiv persists, so restoration work is continuing uninterrupted. On Thursday, 29 January alone, 239 emergency crews worked to stabilise heat and electricity supplies. A decision was also made to increase the number of energy workers in the most problematic areas.
Special attention is being paid to preparations for a drop in air temperature. According to the head of government, frosts are expected again in Ukraine over the weekend, so the State Emergency Service has reported on its level of readiness for possible complications. The government and services are working together to minimise risks to the capital's life support systems.
