Paton Bridge in Kyiv is steaming: a burst in the heating network has occurred
A leak in the heating network has been detected on the Paton Bridge in Kyiv, causing steam to rise above the structure.
It is rising from beneath the bridge in the area closer to the left bank. Despite this, traffic across the bridge has not been halted — vehicles continue to pass as usual.
As noted by the municipal utility ‘Kyivteploenergo’, damage to the heating network was discovered under the bridge at around 07:30 today. The leak of the heat transfer fluid caused steam to form, but the incident was quickly contained.
Specialists are currently preparing to carry out repair work. Due to the specific location of the network under the bridge, climbers with the appropriate permits for working at height will be brought in to repair the damage.
Residents of the Rusanivka and Bereznyaky housing estates have been warned of a temporary suspension of the heat supply for the duration of the repairs. Once the work is completed, the heat supply is expected to be restored.
Similar incidents have occurred on the Paton Bridge before — in particular, breaks in the heating network have been recorded, resulting in hot water flowing into the Dnipro.
The Paton Bridge has been in a state of disrepair for some time due to wear and corrosion of the structures. According to survey results, certain elements have lost their structural integrity. Experts note that there is no immediate risk of collapse, but risks remain, and a full-scale reconstruction is considered the only long-term solution.
