A pilot project for social housing for displaced persons is planned to be launched in Kryvyi Rih
The Dnipropetrovsk region is considering launching a pilot project to build social housing for internally displaced persons (IDPs) who have lost their homes due to the war. The initiative is planned to be implemented in Kryvyi Rih. This was announced in a telegram by the head of the regional council, Mykola Lukashuk.
According to him, Dnipropetrovsk, together with Donetsk and Kharkiv regions, is one of the three regions with the largest number of IDPs in Ukraine. Currently, there are 451,000 officially registered IDPs in the region, of whom almost 100,000 are children.
Lukashuk noted that in December, the regional council adopted a new programme to support internally displaced persons, which is already being implemented. At the same time, in his opinion, regional measures are not enough to solve the housing problem.
According to the official, about 1,900 hectares of land have been identified in the region as suitable for the construction of social housing for people who have lost their homes. The regional council will initiate an appeal to the inter-factional association of people's deputies dealing with IDP issues, with a proposal to launch a pilot project for the construction of such housing in Kryvyi Rih, in cooperation with the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine (Minregion).
Lukashuk explained the choice of Kryvyi Rih as the location for the initiative by the presence of a powerful industrial base, in particular mining and processing plants and the ArcelorMittal enterprise. According to him, this creates an opportunity to provide people with housing close to their places of employment.
