More than €100 million stolen during bank robbery in Germany
In Gelsenkirchen, Germany, criminals stole more than €100 million during a robbery at a Sparkasse bank branch. This was reported by the Bild newspaper, specifying that it is one of the largest robberies in the modern history of Germany, DW writes.
According to journalists, the attackers broke into about 90 per cent of 3,250 individual bank cells. Each of them was insured for up to €10,300, but the actual losses of many customers far exceed this limit.
The robbery took place on 29 December, when criminals drilled a hole in the concrete wall between the vault and the underground car park. The damage was previously estimated at between €10 million and €90 million, but the amount has now increased.
Police currently have no significant clues to the perpetrators. Law enforcement officials note that it is difficult to establish the exact amount of the stolen goods, as the contents of the cells were often not declared.
