On 21 February, at around 10 a.m., a fire broke out in an industrial area in Saransk. The fire was reported in the vicinity of an enterprise that is part of Russia's defence industrial complex.

The fire broke out in the area of the Saransk Instrument-Making Plant, a defence industry complex on Vasenka Street. The fire engulfed one of the workshops with an area of 150 square metres. Two hours later, the fire was localised, and the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that there were no casualties. The cause of the fire was not disclosed.

Local media reported that a warehouse at the enterprise had caught fire. No other official information has been released at this time. In the morning, a drone threat was declared in the region, but the morning report from the Russian Ministry of Defence did not mention any drones being shot down in Mordovia.

According to other sources, the fire occurred on the territory of PJSC Elektrovypryamlyach, one of Russia's largest manufacturers of power electronics for the Russian Armed Forces. Local residents reported this to the Astra Telegram channel, suggesting that the plant could have been hit by drones. The channel analysed eyewitness videos showing a large column of black smoke and concluded that it was Elektrovypryamlyach that was on fire. Ukrainian channels Operativnyy VSU and Exilenova+ also claim that the fire broke out at this enterprise.

PJSC "Elektrovypryamlyach" manufactures rectifiers, inverters, power supplies, converters and other specialised electrical equipment. The enterprise is under sanctions from the US, Canada, the EU, the UK, Switzerland, New Zealand and Japan for its participation in the Russian Federation's state defence order. According to open sources, it has a licence to develop and assemble power semiconductor devices for weapons and military equipment in the Military Register system, as well as permission from the Russian Federal Nuclear Regulatory Authority to design and manufacture equipment for nuclear power plants.

Astra also, citing NASA satellite data, reports a fire at the Naftogorsk gas processing plant of JSC NGPZ in the Samara region after a drone attack. Local authorities reported an attack on two industrial sites. NGZ is part of Rosneft and is engaged in the processing of associated petroleum gas.

On Saturday, Guzel Khabutdinova, head of the Almetyevsk district, reported a massive drone attack on Tatarstan. She said that the drones were attempting to attack industrial facilities. According to Astra, residents spotted the drones 600 metres from the Radiopribor plant, which manufactures electronic systems for aviation. Khabutdinova later reported that air defence forces had neutralised the threat, with no casualties and no disruption to production processes.

Drones were also shot down over the Yelabuga district, where the largest production facility for Geran drones, used for attacks on Ukraine, is located. This was reported by the head of the district, Rustem Nuriev, who noted that there were no casualties or damage. The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation announced the destruction of 11 drones over the republic. According to the Tatarstan authorities, the region was attacked with drones and other means, but the attack was repelled.
