In January, Ukraine saw a decline in freight and passenger traffic volumes, according to the State Statistics Service.
In January 2026, Ukraine transported 24.8 million tonnes of cargo, which is 5.4% less than in the same period of 2025. This was reported by the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.
According to the agency, 11.1 million tonnes of cargo were transported by rail in January, which is 20.8% less than in the same period last year. At the same time, 9.7 million tonnes were delivered by road, which is 17.3% more than in January last year.
A decrease in passenger traffic was also recorded. In January 2026, 160.6 million people used passenger transport services, which is 8.7% less than in January 2025.
The largest number of passengers was transported by road transport — 86.3 million people, which is 14.8% more on an annual basis. Urban electric transport carried 70.1 million passengers, which is 16% less than last year.
It is separately noted that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has regulated the transfer of vehicles received as humanitarian aid to municipal enterprises to ensure passenger transport.
