Slovakia is considering declaring a 'state of emergency' following the crash of a Russian drone
This is according to Noviny.
According to Noviny, the drone crashed into an electricity distribution facility in the town of Perechyn near the railway line. According to sources at TV JOJ, the drone was of the Shahed type. The town was left without electricity until at least the evening, and one person was injured as a result of the incident. They did not require hospitalisation.
What Pellegrini is proposing
Pellegrini stated that he had initiated legislative changes so that the Slovak army could respond more swiftly to potential airspace violations. According to him, the country currently provides for only a state of peace or a state of war, and there is no intermediate mechanism for preventive action in such cases.
The President also announced that he would convene a round-table meeting next week, at which senior army representatives would explain the essence and significance of the proposed changes to the leaders of political parties. He added that representatives of the opposition had also been invited.
Noviny reports that the Slovak military were informed of the air object’s movement via the air situation data exchange system. According to Štefan Zemanovič, spokesperson for the Slovak Armed Forces, there was no need to activate additional detection systems, as the object did not cross the established border, and contact with it was lost after it had approached to within approximately 20 kilometres of the border.
This refers to an attack by Russian units using drones on energy infrastructure in the Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia regions. In the Zakarpattia region, according to the information provided in the report, the Khust and Uzhhorod districts were also targeted, where critical infrastructure facilities were damaged.
