In the USA, 22-year-old refugee from Ukraine Iryna Zarutska was killed
The New York Post writes about the fact that last week, a girl was stabbed to death by a "homeless criminal." This happened at the train station.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reported that on Friday evening, August 22, the girl died at the scene from stab wounds.
It is known that Ukrainian Iryna Zarutska studied at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College from 2023 to 2025. Makeup artist Uliana Kozlovska, in her social networks wrote that she worked with Iryna Zarutska as a model. She also noted that the girl was "a wonderful person, a talented artist who was fleeing from the war in Ukraine".
After the girl's death, a GoFundMe fundraiser was set up for her aunt in the amount of $20,000.
"Ira recently arrived in America, fleeing from the war and dreaming of a new life. Unfortunately, her life was tragically cut short. This is an irreparable loss for the entire family. We have launched this fundraiser to support Valeria and her loved ones during these difficult days and to help them cope with unexpected expenses," - said the organizer of the fundraiser, Yevheniya Rush.
34-year-old DeCarlo Brown Jr. was identified as a suspect and taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries on Friday evening. According to police, he has since been arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
According to court records obtained by The Post, Brown has been arrested several times since 2011 for serious theft, armed robbery, and threats.
According to WSOC-TV, he is homeless and served five years in prison for robbery with a deadly weapon charge.
According to media reports, the alleged killer, however, currently has unresolved charges for misuse of the 911 system. In January of this year, police found "disturbing thoughts" during a welfare check.
During the visit, Brown told law enforcement that, in his opinion, someone had given him "artificial" material that controls when he eats, walks, and talks, according to a court document obtained by the Charlotte Observer. "Brown wanted the officers to investigate this 'artificial' material inside his body," the document states.
It is still unclear what led to Iryna Zarutska's murder, or whether Zarutska and Brown knew each other.
