The Odessa Regional Military Registration and Enlistment Office has issued an official statement regarding the detention of military personnel
The Odessa Regional Recruitment and Social Support Centre has confirmed the detention of military personnel from one of the district recruitment and social support centres in Odessa. The centre stated that it is working with law enforcement agencies to establish the full circumstances.

This was reported by the Odessa Regional Military Registration and Enlistment Office.

The Odessa Regional Military Recruitment Centre and Service Bureau has officially confirmed the detention of military personnel from one of the district recruitment centres and service bureaus in the city of Odessa by law enforcement officials. The statement notes that the management of the regional recruitment centre is cooperating fully with authorised law enforcement officers to clarify all the details of the situation.

The TCC emphasised that they are committed to full transparency and an objective investigation. They also stressed that any violations of the law within the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are unacceptable, and that systematically purging the organisation of individuals who discredit the service remains a priority.

Separately, the centre called on the public and the media to refrain from jumping to conclusions and not to spread unverified information. Further clarification, as stated by the TCC, will be provided once official data has been received and verified. The agency also noted that the Odesa Regional TCC and Joint Staff are currently operating as normal.

At the same time, Odessa-based Telegram channels and certain media outlets are circulating additional details of the incident, which have not yet been officially confirmed. In particular, reports suggest that among those detained is allegedly a police major – a district officer from one of the district police departments – and that the detentions may involve staff from the Peresypskyi TCC. Various reports also contain differing figures regarding the number of detainees, so this information requires separate official confirmation.

A number of media outlets also link this story to a possible demand for money from a man who had been granted a deferment from mobilisation. According to the publication “Dumskaya”, the man had contacted the SBU in advance, after which the special operation began. However, the Odesa Regional TCC did not provide such details in its official statement.

Some Telegram channels and media outlets are also reporting on money, bats and brass knuckles allegedly seized during the arrest, as well as a clash between two minibuses on Mykhailivska Square prior to the special operation. As of now, these details remain at the level of social media reports and have not been confirmed by the Military Registration and Enlistment Office’s official statement.

This is not the first public incident in Odesa involving suspicions regarding TCC personnel. In February, Suspilne reported on the arrest of a TCC serviceman suspected of extorting money in exchange for removing individuals from the wanted list and assisting with booking procedures.

As reported by ThePublic, shots were fired in the centre of Odesa during the day, following which people in military uniform were detained. The detention of the military personnel was confirmed by the regional Territorial Recruitment Centre and the Security Service of Ukraine. Today, 21 April, an incident involving the use of firearms and the detention of people in military uniform took place on Balkivska Street in Odesa. This relates to an operation by the Security Service of Ukraine targeting representatives of the Territorial Recruitment Centres. Eyewitnesses reported hearing numerous gunshots. Videos have been published online showing people wearing clothing marked ‘SBU’ detaining individuals in military uniform and forcing them face-down onto the tarmac. Gunshots can be heard in the footage; one of the vehicles attempted to leave the scene but was subsequently stopped.
