Fire breaks out at synthetic rubber plant in Tula region after night attack
On the night of 24 December, explosions were heard in the city of Efremov, Tula Region, after which eyewitnesses reported a fire on the territory of an industrial enterprise. According to telegram channels, Ukrainian drones struck the territory of the Tula region, and the synthetic rubber plant was one of the targets of the attack.
Later, the governor of the region, Dmitry Miliaev, confirmed the fire, noting that the fire had already been extinguished and there were no injuries.
The ASTRA project conducted OSINT analysis of the video from the scene and geolocated the footage. According to their findings, the fire was recorded in the area of the Yefremivsk Synthetic Rubber Plant. One of the videos was shot from Khimikov Street, about 1.5 kilometres away from the plant, which is located at 2 Budivelnykiv Street. It is impossible to determine the exact location of the fire from the available footage, but the analysis points to the plant's territory.
Efremov Synthetic Rubber Plant has been operating since 1933 and was one of the first producers of butadiene rubber in the USSR. Today, the company is the only producer of high and low molecular weight polyisobutylene in Russia. These materials are used in various industries, including defence products.
