Ukraine needs more air defence systems: Ursula von der Leyen announced a key topic for the NATO summit
She announced this on her X page following yet another large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine.
Von der Leyen emphasised that Russia had once again struck at civilians, deploying more than 400 drones and missiles.
“Last night, the Russian regime once again indiscriminately attacked civilians in the capital from the air with more than 400 drones and missiles,” she wrote.
Against this backdrop, the President of the European Commission stated that Ukraine urgently needs additional air defence capabilities.
According to her, this is precisely the issue that allies will discuss during the NATO summit, which is to take place in Ankara on 7–8 July.
The EU is preparing new sanctions against Russia
Von der Leyen also recalled that last week Ukraine received over €4 billion as part of the European Union’s €90 billion credit support programme.
She added that Kyiv will receive further financial assistance in the near future.
Furthermore, the European Union is working to finalise the 21st package of sanctions against Russia. According to the President of the European Commission, it could be adopted in the coming days.
