Ukrainian drones attacked oil refineries and petrochemical plants in Tatarstan and the Samara Region
Tatarstan
In Nizhnekamsk, one of Russia’s largest petrochemical plants, Nizhnekamskneftekhim, has been targeted. According to monitoring channels, the plant produces synthetic rubbers, plastics, monomers and polyesters and is owned by Sibur.
The Nizhnekamsk oil refinery TANECO, owned by Tatneft, was also attacked. Videos released online show two large-scale fires with thick black smoke.
According to preliminary information, two AVT primary oil refining units and the plant’s tank farm may have been damaged. The plant has a capacity of 16.2 million tonnes per year.
In addition, there are reports of a drone striking a 12-storey residential building. According to available information, three people were injured. Residents have been evacuated.
The mayor of Nizhnekamsk, Radmir Belyaev, announced the cancellation of all festive events for Russia Day, which is celebrated on 12 June.
The head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, confirmed the drone attack on Zakamye and stated that the enterprises are dealing with the aftermath of the strikes. According to him, production processes have not been halted.
Samara Region
Another target of the attack was the Togliattikauchuk chemical plant in Togliatti. The plant is owned by Tatneft and specialises in the production of synthetic rubbers, monomers, polymers and additives for motor fuels.
The mayor of Togliatti, Ilya Sukhikh, confirmed damage to the industrial facility caused by a drone strike.
Other regions of Russia
The Russian Ministry of Defence reported that on the night of 12 June, air defence forces allegedly intercepted and destroyed 231 Ukrainian drones.
According to the Russian ministry, the drones were shot down over Tatarstan, Samara, Astrakhan, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Rostov, Saratov, Smolensk, Tula and Ulyanovsk regions, the Moscow region, as well as over the annexed Crimea.
