Ukraine ranks second in the medal count at the 2026 Winter Paralympics

After the second day of competition at the XIV Winter Paralympic Games in Italy, the Ukrainian team is in second place in the medal standings. Ukrainian athletes have won ten medals.

At the XIV Winter Paralympic Games in Italy, 22 sets of medals were awarded.

After the second day of competition, China leads the medal count. The Chinese team won ten medals in one day.

The Ukrainian team added four more medals to its collection. In total, Ukrainian athletes have ten medals. Among them are three gold, two silver and five bronze medals won in biathlon.

Representatives of 18 countries have already won medals at the 2026 Winter Paralympics.

The top ten in the medal standings are:

China has 16 awards, including 8 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze.

Ukraine has 10 medals, including 3 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze.

Austria has 2 medals, including 2 gold medals.

Canada has 6 medals, including 1 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze.

The United States has 5 medals, including 1 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze.

France has 3 medals, including 1 gold and 2 silver.

Germany has 7 medals, including 1 gold, 1 silver and 5 bronze.

The 2026 Paralympic Games will be held in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo.

Taras Rad won his second medal at the Paralympics

Ukrainian para-biathlete Taras Rad won his second medal at the 2026 Paralympic Games.

The 26-year-old athlete won bronze in the individual sitting race among athletes with musculoskeletal impairments.

He finished 1 minute 19.0 seconds behind the winner and made one mistake at the shooting range.

The gold and silver medals were won by representatives of China. Liu Jixiu showed a result of 34.38 without misses. Mao Zhongwu finished 28.4 seconds behind with one miss.

Earlier at the 2026 Paralympics, Taras Rad became the champion in the biathlon sprint race.

Taras Rad brought Ukraine its first gold medal of the Games

Biathlete Taras Rad won Ukraine's first gold medal at the XIV Winter Paralympic Games.

Twenty-eight para-biathletes took part in the men's sitting sprint race. Among them were five Ukrainians: Oleksandr Oleksyk, Pavlo Bal, Vasyl Kravchuk, Taras Rad and Hryhorii Shymko.

Taras Rad covered the distance in 19 minutes 55.5 seconds and finished the race without any misses.

Chinese athletes took second and third place. Liu Mengtao finished 9.3 seconds behind the winner without any misses. Liu Jixiu finished 17.6 seconds behind without any misses.

This is the second Paralympic gold medal in Rad's career after his victory at the Beijing Games in the 12.5-kilometre race.

Ukrainian biathletes took the triple podium

On the first day of the XIV Winter Paralympic Games, Ukrainian para-biathletes took all the podium places in the standing sprint race.

Oleksandr Kazik took first place. Yaroslav Reshetynsky won the silver medal. Anatoliy Kovalevsky received the bronze medal.

Oleksandra Kononova also won a gold medal in the sprint race among athletes in the standing class. This is her fifth gold medal at the Paralympic Games and her third in para-biathlon.

Lyudmila Lyashenko won the bronze medal in the same class.

After the first day of competition, the Ukrainian Paralympic team led the team standings. It had three gold, one silver and two bronze medals to its credit.
