After the eighth day of competition at the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games, the Ukrainian team is currently in seventh place in the medal table. At the same time, in terms of the total number of medals won, the Ukrainian team is among the top three most successful teams at the Games.

Ukraine is represented at the tournament by a record-breaking team. Thirty-five athletes are taking part in the competitions — 25 para-athletes and 10 guides. The Ukrainians are competing in four sports: biathlon, cross-country skiing, alpine skiing and snowboarding.

After the eighth day of the Paralympics, the Ukrainian team had won 17 medals: three gold, seven silver and seven bronze. It was this result that allowed the team to climb to seventh place in the overall standings, and to third place in terms of total medals.

By way of comparison, at the previous Winter Paralympics, held in Beijing in 2022, Ukraine finished in a record-breaking second place. On that occasion, Ukrainian para-athletes won 29 medals: 11 gold, 10 silver and 8 bronze.

It was at the Beijing Games that the Ukrainian team set two historic records — for the total number of medals won at a single Winter Paralympics, as well as for the number of gold medals.

The winner of the medal table at the 2022 Paralympics was the Chinese team, which won 61 medals — 18 gold, 20 silver and 23 bronze.

Particular attention this year was drawn to the decision by the International Paralympic Committee to allow six Russian and four Belarusian athletes to compete at the 2026 Games under their countries’ national flags. They were also permitted to use national symbols and have their national anthems played during the medal ceremonies.

In response, Ukraine decided to boycott the opening ceremony of the 2026 Paralympics. This position was supported by Poland, the Czech Republic, Finland, Latvia, Estonia, the Netherlands, Canada, Croatia, Lithuania, Germany, Austria, Romania, the United Kingdom, France and Australia.

It was also previously reported that the IPC had banned Ukrainian Paralympians from wearing uniforms featuring a map of Ukraine during the 2026 Games.
