Ukraine has resumed electricity exports after a pause since November
This was reported by EXPRO Consulting.
On Thursday, 5 March, Ukraine resumed electricity exports at certain times of the day. Supplies are carried out at a minimum level and only when there is a surplus in the power system.
According to the consulting company EXPRO Consulting, export volumes currently remain very low. During the day, only 12 MWh of electricity was supplied to Moldova during the night.
Prior to that, electricity exports from Ukraine took place on 11 November 2025.
As of 6 March, the company has reserved 120 MWh of transmission capacity for exports. The highest capacity is expected at 10 a.m. — 20 MW.
Analysts note that the surplus at certain hours is formed due to the active generation of solar power plants and other renewable energy sources. The balance of the power system is also influenced by the consistently high level of electricity production at nuclear power plants.
At the same time, the system may experience a power shortage at certain times. In such cases, power supply restrictions cannot be ruled out.
In addition, due to damage to the network infrastructure as a result of enemy shelling, electricity shortages may occur in certain regions.
Despite the start of exports, electricity imports to Ukraine remain significant. As of 5 March, the total volume amounted to 27,000 MWh.
The largest volumes of imports occur during evening peak hours — about 1.4 GW.
Previously, the electricity shortage in the Ukrainian power system was significantly reduced. While in winter the shortage reached 5–6 GW, it is now approximately 1 GW.
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal stated that the situation in the energy sector in the summer will depend on the scale and effectiveness of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, the level of protection of facilities, and the pace of development of distributed generation.
At the same time, Serhiy Nahorniak, a member of the Verkhovna Rada's energy committee, suggested that Russia may try to cut off centralised water supplies to cities such as Kyiv, Dnipro, Odesa and Kharkiv.
