Ukraine has frozen the assets of an oligarch from Transnistria due to his assistance to the Russian military-industrial complex
As part of an investigation into countering assistance to the aggressor, Ukraine has frozen some of the assets of Viktor Gushan, a key businessman in Transnistria and co-founder of the Sheriff holding company. This was reported by The Public with reference to Zonadesecuritate.
According to the court ruling, companies affiliated with Gushan supplied goods and services for the needs of the Russian military-industrial complex. In particular, this concerns the Moldavizolit plant, located in unrecognised Transnistria, which played a role in supplying materials for the Russian defence industry.
According to the investigation and journalistic inquiries, the scheme involved a number of intermediary companies, including those registered in Russia, which made it possible to conceal the real origin of the goods.
Sheriff is a holding company that has effectively monopolised the economy of Transnistria, controlling retail trade, the fuel market, telecommunications, the media, finance and real estate. Gushar's total assets are estimated at around $2 billion.
The decision to freeze assets is part of a broader policy of sanctions and financial pressure on business structures linked to the Russian Federation, initiated after the full-scale invasion. The investigation is ongoing, and the frozen assets remain under arrest pending a court decision.
