Ukrzaliznytsia to receive €54 million from the EBRD: where will the money go?
This was announced by Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Recovery and Minister for Community and Territorial Development.
- The funds will be allocated to three areas:
- €10 million — for accessibility: modernisation of stations, lifts, escalators, platforms and signage (at stations in Kyiv and Lviv);
- €41 million — for energy development: the purchase of 75 MW power generation units;
- €3 million — to establish the ‘Ukrzaliznytsia’ Academy, which will train specialists and run programmes for veterans.
As part of its inclusivity drive, from 1 April Ukrzaliznytsia has simplified the process of buying tickets for special compartments. Since then, tickets can be purchased online, whereas previously passengers had to go to the station to do so.
Also, from 1 April, Ukrzaliznytsia’s control centre gained access to military airspace control systems to monitor the situation regarding Russian UAVs and evacuate passengers in the event of a threat.
As a reminder, it was previously reported that Ukrzaliznytsia and Oschadbank have launched a preferential mortgage scheme for railway workers with IDP status.
